Wellness Resource Center

“Together We Can”

Program Description:

The Wellness Program is a new program housed under the Resident Services Department and is available to ALL tenants living in public housing and Housing Choice Voucher recipients through the Pawtucket Housing Authority. The purpose of the Wellness program is to expand access to treat individuals that are at risk for substance use, addiction, and co-occurring mental health disorders. By offering this service to housing residents, we hope to reduce anxiety, stress, dependence on substances, and promote a healthier lifestyle. Participants will meet with the Wellness Coordinator or Clinician and receive supportive counseling, case management, or be referred to an outside agency for additional services.

About our new Wellness Center:

  • The program was established in response to the Opioid Epidemic. In 2018, there were 314 opioid-related deaths in Rhode Island. Which was 12.3% higher than the national average. Through this program, we want to prevent the number of people affected by substance misuse by providing access to onsite counseling and referral to treatment. https://www.drugabuse.gov/drugs-abuse/opioids/opioid-summaries-by-state/rhode-island-opioid-summary
  • We know that when wellness behaviors increase, substance use declines as do other health issues. Opportunities for socialization and depression with others can combat isolation and depression, which can often lead to substance use disorders.
  • We want to ensure residents receive the appropriate treatment all while increasing housing stability and reducing the number of evictions produced by health-related challenges
